Ask Marc – Your jukebox questions answered (January 2014 #2)

I’ve been researching a number of pub jukeboxes, which is the best digital jukebox in your opinion?

Jordan Frost, Bar 45, Somerset.

There are various digital jukebox systems available to hire in the UK. We tend to focus on the top end of the market using Sound Leisure digital jukeboxes. With regards to which jukebox is best all round, then I would have to say the new VenueHub is most impressive. It has over 5 million tracks, updates automatically every week and has a number of amazing features such as “Music Spider” and “Date Search”.

The 32″ high definition touchscreen is perfect for advertising plus you can upload photographs using either via USB memory stick or uploading via Flickr. The list of exciting new features to be added soon is endless and includes not only a live on-screen Twitter feed but also “soundjack” which will allow customers to select and pay for their jukebox music via their smart phone. It really has to be seen to be believed!

How many different music zones does the jukebox have?

David Shaw, The Cross Keys, London.

We are able to separate the music into up to four different areas of your venue. For example you may want to be able to control the sound near the bar separately from that by the pool table or the bar and lounge. This would be discussed on a site survey to ensure we deal with your requirements efficiently.

Do you have any CD jukeboxes in stock? We want to be able to put our own music on

Karen Haywood, Red Lion, Oxford.

I have to raise the question – why would you want to be limited to a CD jukebox? With our digital jukeboxes you can have any music you want added or removed. When we upgrade a pub CD jukebox to a new digital jukebox, we pre-install the music the site wants added. The main benefit for many pubs is that there is no extra cost for this.

It could literally save you hundreds of pounds every year, as there would be no need to buy your own CDs anymore. Another benefit would be that your jukebox would be updated every week with new music. We know from experience this not only increases your cash box levels but also maintains customers interest. If it’s local bands you want adding, again there is no extra cost for this. Please feel free to call me anytime to discuss further. Ask about our profit share option. This means there is no hire or jukebox rental costs. Installation is free, so is service and there is no binding contract.

Can we have the sound from the televisions going through the jukebox speakers?

John Hewitt, Craufurd Arms, Maidenhead.

Yes, this can be done. If the SKY box, for example, is within easy access to where the coin-operated jukebox is to be positioned. We would provide you with a “Special Events” key. This would disable the jukebox, putting any previously selected music on hold and allow your sound to be heard through the jukebox speakers. This is ideal for sporting events. In addition to this we will also explain how to advertise your sporting events on the touchscreen jukebox display.

Is there any charge for service if the jukebox breaks down, for example?

Mike Stevens, Foresters Arms, Plymouth.

We do not charge you for service or jukebox spare parts. As all our digital jukeboxes are connected online, so many calls can be done remotely within minutes of your call. However, if it is a hardware fault, then a qualified engineer will be sent to site immediately.

With profit share, do we get charged if we have a bad week?

Simon Jackson, Royal Oak, Birmingham.

The answer to that is no! Unlike many other digital jukebox suppliers, we do not ask you to make up the shortfall.
